"In vitro" Fertilization (I.V.F.)

Basically, in this technique the woman´s oocyte (egg) is fertilized outside of her body, cultured during the first stages of cell division, then implanted in the womb. The following aspects are noteworthy:
a)stimulation of oocyte maturation within the ovaries: this requires the daily administration of hormones. The time needed varies, but is usually between 2 and 3 weeks. During this period, the patient undergoes medical tests with echography and an analysis of stradiol in the blood. These data provide information necessary to determine the correct day to extract the oocytes.
