When is it recommended?
This study is reserved for the embryos of couples who: 1) are carriers or affected by a chromosomal or genetic disorder that may be passed on to their descendants; 2) wish to have a child not affected by the disorder; and 3) wish to avoid the legal interruption of a pregnancy.
Limits of the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis
The PGD is regulated by law; in Spain it is the “ley de Reproducción Asistida” (Ley 35/1998). Apart from the legal aspects, it must be stressed that the PGD is only a partial study of genetic material, so that it provides no information about other possible alterations which may be present and which bear no relation to the progenitors. |
