Preimplatation Genetic Diagnosis (P.G.D.):

What is it?
This consists of a partial study of the genetic make-up of an embryo before it is transferred to the mother´s womb. The objective is to ascertain the normality of the embryo, from a genetic point of view, to prevent inheritable disease and to favor the success of the infertile couple´s attempt.
How is it done?
A biopsy is performed on each embryo when it reaches the stage of 6-8 cells. While the embryo is maintained (in the laboratory under ideal conditions for survival and growth), the nucleus of a cell is extracted and analyzed.
